INKY BURRS & ETCHINGS

Updated: Jul 24, 2021

TREE ETCHING PRINT

The rings of a cut tree are wondrous. Each one is unique and tells it’s own story. The beauty of the curved lines with their fine textures and uneven edges is hard to capture as a drawing. But, etching plates with their carved graphic lines and inky burrs work really well.

To add layers of texture, I cast each etching plate, after inking, in plaster. Each cast is left to air dry for at least 48 hours. I work into each finished piece with different tools to carve into the surface of the plaster or ink in additional lines and sometimes add delicate washes of colour. Each cast is completely unique.

There are two tree etchings that have been used on our silk scarves, pouches, art cushions and long cashmere wrap. I particularly love the mono-tone abstract nature of the marks which become almost animal-like when taken really big.

We also have a limited edition of signed giclee prints available.
